Choosing to leave Colorado Christian to spend more time with family, Head Women's Soccer Coach Tammy McPherson stepped down this week after over a decade of coaching and another four years as a student-athlete for the Cougars.

A stand-out player for Coach Gary Evans' Women's Soccer teams from 1995-1998, McPherson received the 1995 Conference Newcomer of the Year Award as a freshman, and by her senior year had racked up four First Team All-RMAC selections. During her career as a Cougar, McPherson single-handedly rewrote the record books, positioning herself either first or second in no less than six statistical categories. A three-sport sensation, McPherson also competed for CCU in basketball and cross country.

Just a few short years after finishing her career as a player, McPherson returned to coach alongside Coach Evans as an assistant for the program.

In 2003, she took over the reins, assuming Head Coach duties. In her tenure at the helm, McPherson has guided her team to two NCCAA Regional Championships, two NCCAA National Tournament appearances, and a spot in the 2008 NCCAA National Finals. She was twice named NCCAA Central Region Coach of the Year.

"Tammy has been a faithful employee and coach, and was an excellent mentor for her players," commented Athletic Director Darren Richie. "She has done an excellent job leading her teams over the years. Her work ethic is unmatched, and her loyalty to CCU has been a gift."

"CCU has been a great ride," remarked Coach McPherson. "There have definitely been ups and downs, but I really can't say enough about the opportunity and privilege I have had to be a student-athlete and then employee at Colorado Christian. I believe in the mission of CCU, as well as the administration, and I'm really just grateful for the time I have had here."

A nationwide search to fill the vacancy will begin immediately. Interested applicants should go directly to CCU's Department of Human Resources to submit a resume and apply.
