Playoff Teams dominate All-Central Region squad
Colorado Mines' Mitchell named Player of the Year
ALAMOSA, Colo.- Led by region player of the year Kayla Mitchell of the Colorado School of Mines, a total of 11 players from the six teams from the region that qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament have been named to the 13-player First Team Daktronics All-Central Region Women's Soccer squad that was announced Tuesday. The qualifying teams also combined for six second team picks.
No. 1 seed Metro State, which will host the regional championship game on Friday against Mitchell's Orediggers, seeded third, had a region-high six overall picks including first team selections Becca Mays, Kathryn Gosztyla and Courtney Ryan.
Mitchell, a senior forward who hails from Ontario, Ore., has scored an impressive 30 goals this season, just one short of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference single-season record, and was earlier named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
She and Mays were also first team selections in 2008 as was Bemidji State's Ashlee Ellefsen, a second team pick this year.
A total of 12 different institutions had at least one honoree.
The first team selections, made up of four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders and a goalkeepers will now be placed on the national ballot for Daktronics All-America honors that will be announced Dec. 1.

The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the Central Region, made up of 25 women's soccer playing institutions in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
