ALAMOSA, Colo.— Nov. 12, 2008 - Players from the six teams going to the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament earned eight of the 11 first team spots and 14 overall selections to the Daktronics All-Central Region Women’s Soccer team that was announced Tuesday.
Highlighting the list was Metro State senior defender Nicole Cito, who was tabbed as the Central Region Player of the Year. A 2-time Daktronics All-America selection, Cito was earlier named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year and anchored a Roadrunner defense that allowed just 10 goals in 21 matching while earning the No. 1 seed in the regional tournament that begins Friday in Denver and Winona, Minn., home of the No. 2 seed Winona State Warriors, who had four total players on the team, including three first-team selections.
In total, 13 different institutions had at least one player selected to the first or second teams with eight different squads earning representation on the first team. The first team selections are now placed on the national ballot for Daktronics All-America honors that will be announced Dec. 2.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the Central Region, made up of 24 playing institutions in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
