Greg Adams is WNMU's newest member of the athletic coach staff.
As a an assistant women's basketball coach three separate times at
the NCAA Division I level with some time spent as a head coach at
the high school level, Adams will take over the reins of the
Mustang women's basketball program.
Adams brings a wealth of knowledge to the WNMU program. He replaces
Quinn Tedder who left in April after spending one year with the
program and compiling an overall record of 8-19 and 6-13 in
conference play.
"We are very excited to have Greg join the Mustang family," says
Director of Athletics Scott Woodard. "He has a solid work ethic, is
a great communicator, and is knowledgeable of the game. We think he
will do a great job with the women's program."
For the past two seasons, Adams has served as the assistant women's
basketball coach at Stony Brook University, located in Stony Brook,
New York on Long Island. His primary duties consisted of
coordinating advanced game scouting, monitoring the academic
progress of student-athletes, mentoring the recruiting coordinator,
assisting the head coach with practice planning, and organizing the
strength and conditioning program.
Adams joined the Stony Brook staff following high school coaching
stints at Juan Diego Catholic High School in Utah and Thousand Oaks
High School in California. Prior to coaching at the high school
ranks, Adams served as the lead assistant for the San Jose State
University women's basketball program from 2002 to 2004. At San
Jose State, Adams coordinated student-athlete academic monitoring
and oversaw recruiting efforts which included the signing of a
national top 50 player. He also helped lead the program to its best
start in the school's history.
Prior to San Jose State, Adams served as an assistant coach at
Southern University in Louisiana from 2001-2002. Adams helped lead
Southern to an NCAA Tournament appearance while serving as the
recruiting and academic coordinator. He also signed five
student-athletes including an all-state prospect and eventual
Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Freshman of the Year (2003)
and SWAC Player of the Year (2005).
Adams first collegiate coaching position was at California State
University - Northridge as a student assistant during the 1997-1998
season and a third assistant from 1999 to 2001. His
responsibilities included student-athlete recruitment, and academic
and athletic development.
Adams earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1998.
"After 13 years in coaching, I am ready to lead my own collegiate
basketball program," says Adams. "I plan to make this program
competitive on the court and well managed off the court."
Adams will be on campus from May 15 to May 21. He will then return
to Silver City permanently on June 8.
