No. 3 Seed Colorado Mines Gains 63-56 Win Over No. 2 Seed Nebraska-Kearney
PUEBLO, Colo. - Brecca Gaffney led Colorado Mines with 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Orediggers defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 63-56 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinal game. Both teams are the 2008-09 RMAC East Divisional co-champions.
With the win, Colorado Mines, seeded No. 3 in the tournament, will face No. 4 seed CSU-Pueblo Saturday night at 6 p.m. CSU-Pueblo upset the fourth ranked team in the nation, Fort Lewis College, earlier today.
Neither team shot well from the floor which resulted in 18 lead changes. CSM made 19-56 field goals for 33.9 percent while the Lopers notched 15-51 in field goals (29.4 percent).
Jade Meads of Nebraska-Kearney scored 20 points to lead all scorers, 10 of which came from the free throw line. Jonni Mildenberger added 12 points and 10 rebounds to post her eighth double-double of the year.
Colorado Mines is ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Central Regional poll while Nebraska-Kearney is ranked No. 5. CSU-Pueblo holds the eighth spot in the region. The winner of the RMAC Shootout will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament. NCAA selections for the NCAA tournament will take place Sunday night at www.ncaa.com.
