CSU-Pueblo Upsets Fort Lewis in RMAC SHOOTOUT Semifinal, 70-68
Pueblo, Colo. -- March 7, 2008 -- Fifth seed CSU-Pueblo defeated top seed Fort Lewis College Friday afternoon in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference SHOOTOUT semifinal game in overtime. The Thunderwolves edged Fort Lewis, 70-68, at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
The Thunderwolves Lindsay Black netted a game high 22 points and added 10 rebounds and four blocks in the extra period win. Teammate Mary Rehfeld added 17 points, nine of which came from long range. Forward Sarah Staggs pulled down a team best 11 caroms to go with her seven points, three blocks and three steals.
Fort Lewis' Audrey George tallied a game high 14 rebounds, six of which were offensive. Laura Haugen and Allison Rosel led the Skyhawks offensively with 18 and 17 points.
As a team, the Thunderwolves made 25 off 55 field goals (.379) and 13 of 17 from the line (.765). The Skyhawks sank 26 of 65 field goals for 40.0 percent and 7 of 11 free throws for .636.
The loss was only the Skyhawks third of the season. CSU-Pueblo advances to the championship game for the second time in three years. They will play the winner between Nebraska-Kearney and Metro State Saturday night at 8 p.m.
