Regis Women Defeat Nebraska-Kearney 79-71 in
RMAC SHOOTOUT Semifinal
PUEBLO, Colo. - March 3, 2007 - Denise Lopez of Regis University
scored a game high 23 points and grabbed a game high 13 rebounds as
the Rangers won the first women' semifinal game of the 2007 Rocky
Mountain Athletic Conference SHOOTOUT. The Rangers, who
entered the RMAC SHOOTOUT as the top seed, improve to 24-5 overall
while fourth-seed Nebraska-Kearney is 20-9.
Both teams were knotted at halftime with 31 points apiece.
They held a 22-12 lead in the first half before RU responded with a
16-2 run. Stevi Seitz hit a lay-up with 13:55 remaining in
regulation to give the Rangers a 45-43 lead they would not
relinquish.
Jade Meads led Nebraska-Kearney with 21 points on 6-of-15
shooting. Melissa Hinkley pulled down a team high nine
rebounds for the Lopers. Diana Lopez posted a double-double
after tallying 15 points and 10 caroms.
The Regis made 25-of-59 field goals for 42.4 percent.
Nebraska-Kearney shot 33.9 percent from the floor (19-56). RU
out-rebounded the Lopers, 44-20.
Regis will play the winner of the #2 CSU-Pueblo and #3 Metro
State semi-final game. The championship game is slated for
Noon on Sunday, March 4 at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in
Pueblo. Altitude Sports and Entertainment will broadcast the
game live.
