NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll - March 9, 2011

Despite First Loss, Angelo Retains Top Spot In NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Despite dropping their first game of the year last week, the Angelo State Rambelles garnered enough votes to remain the top team in the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll for the second straight week, according to the latest poll released by the organization on Wednesday.

Angelo State (20-1) garnered 13 of 16 first-place votes and finished 14 points ahead of second-place North Georgia (20-2), who received one first-place vote.  Valdosta State (7-1) dropped from second to third this week after losing its first game, but still received two first-place votes.  Holding strong in fourth and fifth this week were Alabama-Huntsville (9-0-1) and Hawai’i Pacific, respectively.

Three teams fell out of this week’s poll to make way for three teams making their first appearance in the weekly rankings this season. No. 20 Ashland, No. 24 Lewis and No. 25 all dropped out the poll this week, allowing Missouri Western (13-3), Minnesota State-Mankato(14-1) and Saginaw Valley (6-2) to debut at 20th, 23rd and 25th, respectively.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. Records as of Mar. 6, 2011 are shown, first-place votes are in parentheses.
