Former All-Big 12 Performer Nicole Trimboli Tabbed as Regis Head Softball Coach

Former All-Big 12 Performer and Current National Professional Fastpitch Player Nicole Trimboli Tabbed as Regis University Head Softball Coach

Denver, Colo.: Regis Director of Athletics Ann Martin today announced the hiring of Nicole Trimboli as the Rangers head softball coach.  Trimboli, who replaced Dana Lillard, becomes the fourth head coach in program history.  She will offically begin her duties on August 15th.

“ Iam excited to hire Nicole as our softball coach,” states Martin.  “Her knowledge and experience will be an asset to our team and athletic department.  Nicole has a lot of ties throughout the country and Iam very pleased to hire someone who is held in such high regards amongst the softball community.  She will be a great fit for our program.”

Trimboli, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., most recently was an assistant coach at NCAADivision ICentral Florida in Orlando, Fla.  She began there in October 2009 and previously was an assistant coach at Portland State during the 2008-09 season.  In 2010, Trimboli helped the Central Florida to a 36-23 record and a berth in the NCAATournament.

Trimboli reacts, “Ihave been waiting for a great opportunity like this for my first head coaching position.  Ifeel very lucky to be able to come back to my home state and coach a sport Ilove.  Ilook forward to meeting all the players and continuing the success that the previous coaches have had.”

Her one season at Portland State proved to be successful as she helped lead the Vikings to a Pacific Coast Softball Conference title with a school-best 15-5 conference record and a berth in the NCAATournament.

Not a stranger to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Trimboli spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Colorado Mines during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.  In 2008, she helped lead the Orediggers to a 38-19 overall record and the RMAC Championship. 

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Trimboli earned All-Big 12 honors three times, including first team honors both her freshman and senior seasons.  She also earned NCAAAll-Midwest accolades twice.  Her 2002 Husker team earned a spot in the Women’s College World Series, finishing fifth, while helping UNLto Big 12 titles in 2001 and 2004.  Trimboli was also named Big 12 All-Tournament twice, while earning a spot on the Big 12 10th Anniversary Team.

“I want to thank Ann (Martin) for this opportunity; it is a dream of mine to be a head coach at a Division IIschool,” states Trimboli.  “The balance between life and work is a major reason why Regis and Division II is such an ideal place to further my career.”

Trimboli ranks in the top 10 in Big 12 history in at bats (772)and RBIs with 173.  She ranks in the top 10 in eight separate career categories in Nebraska history, with her 232 career hits ranking fifth. 

Trimboli currently plays in the four-team National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)league with the USSSA Pride, where she plays with current USANational Team members Cat Osterman, Andrea Duran, Alissa Haber, Lauren Lappin, Caitlin Lowe, Jessica Mendoza, and Natasha Watley. 

Trimboli was drafted by the Akron Racers in 2004 and was named a NPFAll-Star as a rookie before helping the Chicago Bandits to the NPFChampionship in 2005.  She was named the NPFChampionship MVPafter leading the Chicago Bandits to the championship in 2008 and a year later earned her third NPFChampionship also with the Bandits.

Regis finished the 2010 season with a 22-28 record and a third place finish at the RMACTournament.  The Rangers lost just one player to graduation and return All-RMACperformers seniors Alisa Heronema and Bianca Holley.

Regis University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
