Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney Athletic Director Jon
McBride announced today that Lexington native Jake Saulsbury has
been hired as the Lopers men's and women's tennis coach.
Saulsbury replaces Kent Shultz, who resigned in May to take a
position with the USTA in Jackson, Miss.
A 2008 graduate of NW Missouri State, Saulsbury spent the last
season as the Bearcats graduate assistant coach. He was involved
with all aspects of the program, helping both Northwest teams
advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Sauslbury has also worked extensively with the Bearcat Tennis Camp
the past three years.
"We think Jake has a very promising coaching career ahead of him.
We're very pleased he is bringing his energy and enthusiasm to UNK
and the Kearney tennis commuity," said McBride.
As a player for Northwest, Sauslbury was a two-time first-team
all-conference singles player who also earned a national ranking in
doubles. As a junior, he and his doubles partner won their
respective region and advance to the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis
Association) National Small College Championships.
At Lexington High School, Saulsbury was the 2003 Class B state
champion at No. 1 singles.
The UNK women will return five starters off of last year's Sweet 16
team while a young Loper men's team is led by Elkhorn native Josh
Raymond, tabbed as the Central Region's Rookie Player of the Year.
