Five RMAC Men’s Basketball Teams Selected to NCAA Tournament
INDIANAOPLIS, Ind. – Five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s basketball teams have been selected for the 2011 NCAA central regional tournament. Minnesota State-Mankato received the top seed and will host the tournament March 12-15.
Fort Lewis (22-7) received the highest seed from the conference and will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Skyhawks, who won this year’s RMAC Shootout championship for the third time, will play seventh seed Mesa State (18-9) in the quarterfinal round. Mesa State swept the Skyhawks in the regular season but Fort Lewis defeated them in the first round of the conference tournament.
The RMAC regular season champion, Colorado Mines, received the No. 3 seed and will enter the tournament at 24-5. They will play sixth seed Adams State College (20-8). Both teams split during the regular season before the Orediggers defeated Adams State in the RMAC Shootout semifinal round Friday afternoon.
Fifth seed Metro State (21-7) will play fourth seed University of Mary (23-5). Metro State is 1-0 all-time against Mary and will play the Marauders for the first time since 2005.
The Mavericks of MSU (24-4) will play eighth seed and NSIC automatic qualifier Winona State (20-8).
