Fort Lewis Edges Metro State in RMAC Semifinal Action, 56-54

PUEBLO, Colo. – March 4, 2011 – The Fort Lewis
men’s basketball team edged Metro State Friday night in the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout semifinal, 56-54, at
the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
Fort Lewis, the third seed in the tournament, improves to 21-7 on the year while second seed Metro State falls to 21-7.
Daniel Steffensen led all scorers with 16 points. He added six rebounds, four assists and a steal while making 6 of 12 field goals (3 of 8 three-point field goals). DeAndre Lansdowne chipped in 12 points, four steals, four rebounds and two assists in the win.
Quaran Johnson came off the bench to lead Metro State with 11 points and three assists. Johnson made 4 of 8 field goals while Glenn Miller, Jonathan Morse and Brandon Jefferson each chipped in eight points apiece.
The Skyhawks netted 21 of 52 field goals (.404) and 8 of 17 free throws (.471). Metro State sank 17 of 47 field goals (.362) and 15 of 20 free throws (.750). Metro State out-rebounded the Skyhawks, 35-33, while the Skyhawks forced 13 MSCD turnovers to their nine.
Fort Lewis will face the top seed Colorado Mines Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
