NABC/Division II men's basketball poll
Nov. 24, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 2009-10 men's basketball season is nine days old for most teams at the NCAA Division II level and the early results have shifted a few teams around from the pre-season rankings to their current positions in the first NABC/Division II coaches poll.

BYU-Hawaii, which will open its season Wednesday against Oakland City, retains the top spot, but the teams ranked second, third and fourth in the pre-season all suffered losses during the opening week of play and have dropped to the lower end of the top 10 as a result.  The losses have moved the fifth-ranked team in the pre-season, Central Missouri, to No. 2 on the eve of a game Tuesday in the Sprint Center in Kansas City against Rockhurst.  The Mules are 2-0 heading into that game.

Valdosta State is third in the first regular season ranking, followed by Florida Southern, Bentley and Augusta State; those teams held positions seven through 10 in the pre-season.  The pre-season No. 2 team, Bellarmine, checks in at No. 7 after losing an overtime game Saturday at Wayne State (Mich.), while Southwest Baptist dropped five spots as well after losing at Drury.

St. Cloud State comes in at No. 9 and defending national champion Findlay, which saw its 38-game winning streak halted Saturday at Indianapolis, is ranked tenth this week.

The next five teams in the poll are Indiana (Pa.), Metropolitan State, Kutztown, Winona State and Southwest Minnesota State; that group is followed by Rollins, Cal Poly Pomona - the only team in the pre-season top 10 to drop out - Grand Valley State, Tusculum and LeMoyne.

West Virginia State, one of five new teams in the rankings this week, heads the list of the final five teams in the poll.  Humboldt State, Arkansas Tech, Seattle Pacific and Drury round out the initial Top 25 for the regular season.
