NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Rankings
2009-10 Rankings - Jan. 5, 2010 (Ranking #6)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The first NABC/Division II coaches poll of the new year still has the same team on top as it did when 2009 ended, but Central Missouri's stay on top could be short-lived after the Mules suffered their first loss of the season Monday night.
Central remains on top, as the rankings do not reflect the games played on Monday, followed by eight of the 12 remaining undefeated teams in the NCAA Division II ranks. The top five spots overall remained unchanged with Florida Southern second, Augusta State third, Indiana (Pa.) fourth and Arkansas Tech in the fifth spot. The first change comes at No. 6, where Seattle Pacific's two losses in the past week allowed Kutztown and Minnesota State to slide up one spot apiece in the rankings.
Southern Indiana vaulted over Midwestern State to the eighth spot in the rankings and Fort Hays State, who knocked off Central Missouri Monday night, moves into the top 10 for the first time this season.
Southwest Baptist stays at No. 11 and is followed by a trio of one-loss teams in Valdosta State, Kentucky Wesleyan and Western Washington. Two more unbeaten teams, Montevallo and Quincy, hold the next two spots in the rankings, then Seattle Pacific checks in at No. 17, an 11-spot drop from the last poll. Drury, Bentley and Rollins round out the top 20.
The final five places in the rankings are occupied by Augustana, Cal Poly Pomona, Stillman - the 11th undefeated team in the top 25 - Mesa State and Adelphi. East Stroudsburg is the only team without a loss that is not among the top 25, but did receive votes this week.
