Cowboys Break RMAC All-Time Turnaround Record

Las Vegas, N.M. - The NMHU Cowboys Basketball team has set a lot of records this season and they added one more dubious honor under their belt as they have broken the RMAC All-Time Best Turnaround record which was previously held by the 1986-87 Western State College basketball team. The 1986-87 Western State College basketball team improved upon their 1985-86 record of 5-21 to 19-13 the very next season (14 games). The Cowboys broke the record on Feb. 5 as they won their 16th game of the season to set the new record at 15 games with six more games to play in the regular season.

"This season has been great, but we still have six games to go before we can call it a success. I am so proud of my guys; they have managed to overcome the stigma that Highlands Basketball has had the past couple of years. My team has not only brought the winning tradition back to HU Basketball, they have done it with class" said Coach Harge when asked about his team setting the new RMAC All-Time Best Turnaround record.

The Cowboys were in the cellar a year ago as they finished the season with a dismal 1-25 record and have made a complete turnaround this season as they are currently 16-5 on the season and on the verge of the best season in recent NMHU history. The Cowboys are ranked eighth overall in the region and look to improve upon that as they gear up to hit the road this weekend. The Cowboys begin their final road series of the season when they take on Adams State College on Feb. 13 in Alamosa, Colo. and finish on Feb. 14 when they face Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.
