Top Seed Metro State Wins 2009 RMAC Men's Shootout Championship

PUEBLO, Colo. -The Metro State College Roadrunners won the 2009 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout title behind Jesse Wagstaff's 22 points and six rebounds.  Metro State, the top seed in this year's tournament, defeated No. 3 seed Fort Lewis, 84-78 Saturday night at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.

Wagstaff, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, made 6-13 field goals and 9-12 free throws.   Teammate Donte Nicholas added 16 points while Chris Robinson posted 13 points.  Daniel Bass was perfect on the night, making all four field goal attempts and all three free throws for 11 points.

Fort Lewis' DeAndre Lansdowne scored a team high 19 points and contributed eight caroms, two assists one block and a steal.  Kirk Archibeque recorded another double-double, his 10th this season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Skyhawks fall to 24-9 on the season while Metro State improves to 27-3.  The Roadrunners were ranked third in last week's NCAA regional poll and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament, which will be hosted by the top seed after tomorrow night's selection call.  Fort Lewis, ranked sixth in the same poll, will await their selection on www.ncaa.com.
