Northern State's Kevin Ratzsch Headlines 2008-09 Daktronics All-Central Region Men's Basketball Team
MOORHEAD, MN (March 12, 2009) - - - Kevin Ratzsch of Northern State University has been named the 2008-09 DAKTRONICS NCAA Division II Central Region Men's Player of the Year.
Ratzsch is joined on the five-man all-region first team by Drake Beranek of University of Nebraska-Kearney, Marquise Carrington of Metro State College, David Johnson of Winona State University and Jesse Wagstaff of Metro State.
A three-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference selection, Ratzsch averaged 21.1 ppg this winter. The Bloomington, IL native led the NSIC in scoring and reached double figures in 28 of 29 games, including 17 games with 20 or more points. He was also credited with eight double-doubles.
A 6-4 junior from Ravenna, NE, Beranek was a two-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection for the Antelopes and led the RMAC in scoring this year with 21.9 ppg, a total that five double-doubles.
A native of Philadelphia, PA, Carrington ranks in the top 10 for the Roadrunners in scoring, assists and steals. The 5-11 senior was a three-year starter and averaged 13.8 ppg this winter. He ranked fourth in the RMAC in assist/turnover ratio and fifth in assists.
Johnson, 6-2, was named to the All-NSIC in 2008-09 and averaged 17.3 ppg. A junior from Hayfield, MN, he led the NSIC in three-point production, 3.03, and ranks 12th on the Warriors' all-time scoring list.
A 6-8 senior from Canberra, Australia, Wagstaff was honored as the RMAC Player of the Year in 2008-09 and RMAC Tournament MVP. He averaged 17.9 ppg and 7.6 rpg this season and ranks in the top five at Metro State in scoring and rebounding.
The second team includes Justyn Burgess of Minnesota State University Moorhead, Craig Heiman of Concordia University, Tim McLaurin of Chadron State College, and Brian Sykora and John Vaudreuil of University of Minnesota Duluth.
