Adams State Wins First RMAC SHOOTOUT Semi-final
Game, 97-90 over Nebraska-Kearney
PUBELO, Colo. - March 3, 2007 - The Adams State Grizzlies
advanced to their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference SHOOTOUT
championship for the first time in the history of their program
after defeating Nebraska-Kearney, 97-90 in overtime Saturday night
at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
The Lopers held a slight 36-35 edge at halftime but Larry
Charles drive the full length of the court at the end of regulation
tied the game for Adams State, heading the game into
overtime. The Grizzlies took over in the extra period,
out-scoring the Lopers 23-16, in their first win ever against the
Lopers.
Adams State (16-12) was led by Roman Moniak who notched 33
points after making 11-of-19 field goals and 4-of-8 from behind the
arc. Marcus Mortensen added 19 points and six assists.
Eleven of his 19 points came from the charity stripe
(11-of-13). Wes Jensen, who was perfect in free throws
(6-for-6) added 19 points while Charles posted 11 points and five
assists.
Jura matched a game-high offensive output with 33 points,
scoring half of them from the free throw line (16-20). He
also grabbed a game high 20 rebounds to go with his three steals
and assist.
UNK shot 41.4 percent from the floor (29-of-70) and 81.8 percent
from long range (27-of-33). The Grizzlies made 28-of-61 field
goals (45.9 percent) and 8-of-19 from long range (42.1
percent).
Second seed Adams State will match up against top seed Metro
State on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. The game, along with the
women's championship game at noon, will be aired live on Altitude
Sports and Entertainment.
