NORMAN, Okla. — Fort Lewis College head golf coach Bud Andersen was chosen as the Easton Golf Pride Central Region Coach of the Year, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced earlier this summer.
“I think it’s really cool to get that nomination,” said Andersen, who began his 15th season as head coach of the Skyhawks this fall. “It was just a great year when you think about it.”
Andersen’s troops enjoyed the finest season in school history in 2010-11, winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title and finishing in the top eight at the NCAA Division II Championship at the Fighting Joe Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Florence, Ala. The Skyhawks finished seventh in stroke play, qualifying for the NCAA Division II match play quarterfinals, where they lost 4-1 to Abilene Christian last May.
Andersen, a 1996 graduate of Fort Lewis College, was named the RMAC Coach of the Year following the 2009-10 season.
The awards are sponsored by Easton. Easton’s Golf Grip Division is the world’s largest manufacturer of golf grips, with manufacturing, sales, and distribution facilities on five continents. The division’s Golf Pride brand is recognized globally as the number one choice in grips among tour and recreational players, competitive amateur golfers, club manufacturers, and club repairmen.
