Two Basketball Student-Athletes Headline January’s RMAC Athlete of the Month Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – February 4, 2011 – Metro State’s Reggie Evans and Fort Lewis’ Dana Schreibvogel headline this month’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Athletes of the Month.  The league’s sports information directors nominate the student-athletes that are then selected by the league office.

Evans averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals, while shooting 49.0 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three point range in the month of January, leading Metro State's basketball team to a 9-1 record during the month.  Evans scored in double figures in nine of the 10 games and scored at least 20 points five times, including the final two games to earn RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 31.

He poured in 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a pivotal game against Colorado Mines on Jan. 7, locking up first place in the conference for the team.  His 27 points on Jan. 14 against CSU-Pueblo were a season high and he missed his first career double-double by one rebounds. Evans had another solid game on the road at Fort Lewis, scoring 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a season-high four 3-pointers.  He wrapped up the month with 21 points against Western State and 20 against Mesa State en route to player of the week honors.  He ranks second in the conference in scoring with 17.9 points per game.

Schreibvogel averaged 17.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.4 blocks per game in nine January games, helping the fourth-ranked Skyhawks to an 8-1 record during the month.  She scored 20 or more points four times during the month, while scoring in double figures in all nine games.  Schreibvogel, who has five double-doubles this season, notched a double-double at Colorado Christian on Jan. 14 (21 points, 10 rebounds).  She leads the league in field goal percentage (.587, 131 of 223) and is second in scoring (17.5 points per game), just 0.1 off the league leader.

Schreibvogel has aided the Skyhawks in extending their school record consecutive home court wins streak to 41 games.  She was named RMAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 4, 2011, an honor she has won five times this year, and she was named to the RMAC All-Academic second team.
