MSCD's Christie Robinson and UNK's Dane tobey Named RMAC April Athletes of the Month

Metro State’s Christie Robinson and Nebraska-Kearney’s Dane Tobey Named RMAC April Athletes of the Month

Colorado Springs, Colo. – May 6, 2010 - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference instituted an awards program to recognize outstanding performances by student-athletes throughout the league by honoring student-athletes each month. The league's sports information directors nominate the student-athletes that are then selected by the league office. This month's award winners for April 2010 are Metro State’s Christie Robinson (softball) and Nebraska-Kearney’s Dane Tobey (track & field).

Robinson was solid from the mound in April, leading Metro State to a 17-1 record on the softball field as she posted a 9-0 record in nine starts and had a 0.13 ERA in 52 innings, holding opponents to a .180 batting average and limiting them to just four walks.  She recorded five shutouts during the month.  Robinson opened the month with two victories at Colorado Mines, including a six-inning shutout on April 3.  She then tossed two complete game, three-hit shutouts against UC-Colorado Springs April 10-11 to be named RMAC Pitcher of the Week.  On April 16, Robinson and the Roadrunners topped Western New Mexico 14-2 in five innings.  She allowed just three hits and one earned run against the hot-hitting Mustangs.  After a one-hit shutout against New Mexico Highlands on April 17, she shut down Nebraska-Kearney in seven innings for her fifth shutout of the month on the 24th.  In her final two starts, Robinson allowed just two unearned runs in 14 innings against UNK and Chadron State.  In her past 11 starts including Sunday’s game on May 2, Robinson has a 0.11 ERA, allowing one run in 66.0 innings.

In six outdoor meets in April, covering a total of 12 events, junior Tobey has recorded an NCAA automatic or provisional effort 11 times.  The Waco, Neb. native has tallied an automatic throw in the shot in each meet this season.  He won the shot put at the Drake Relays (59-6.75) on April 23.  Then on April 30, Tobey smashed his own school record (183-7; April 2006) in the discus at the UNK Twilight meet (183-10).  He owns the best discus throw this season in Division II (180-8).
