Fochi Named RMAC Coordinator of Softball Officials
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – October 1, 2010 -- Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Commissioner Joel R. Smith announced today that John Fochi has been named the conference’s coordinator of softball officials. Fochi will begin his role as softball coordinator immediately.
“I am looking forward to this new opportunity as the RMAC Softball Officials Coordinator,” said Fochi. “I have met with Commissioner JR Smith and his staff and I am excited to be working with them. Our former coordinator, Dave Neidlinger, has been an outstanding fixture in the position as our Coordinator for so many years and has established a strong foundation which I plan to build upon. With our present group of officials, our plan is to go forward and always strive to officiate each and every play at our very best.”
Fochi has worked as a college softball umpire at the Division I and Division II levels since 1998. At the high school level, he has been an ASA umpire since 1978, a Colorado high school softball official since 1987 and president of the Colorado High School softball association.
“We’re thrilled to have John on board with us as the softball coordinator,” said Smith. “We look forward to working with him, and evaluating and developing current and new officials for our league. He brings an array of knowledge and experience with him and we’re confident he will fill the position well.”
A two-sport official, Fochi has also worked on the hard court as a basketball official in the league from 2000-2008. He served as president of the Colorado high school basketball association form 2007-2009, regional director of Colorado high school basketball Denver/Metro area, and area director of Colorado high school basketball association.
Fochi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loretto Heights College in 1974. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1983 with a Master of Science degree in basic science, biology and chemistry. Currently, Fochi is an associate Professor in the Chemistry department at Metropolitan State College of Denver.
