Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Joins with Coaches of Excellence Institute in Sportsmanship Initiative and Professional Development Program
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- July 1, 2010 -- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has joined forces with Coaches of Excellence to initiate a sportsmanship and development program for the league’s coaches, administrators and officials, announced today by Commissioner Joel R. Smith.
“We have a unique opportunity to provide professional development to coaches, administrators and officials that will enhance the experience of our student-athletes and Rod’s message is one that is designed to provide that,” said Smith.
Coaches of Excellence (COE) Institute is a non-profit organization that trains thousands of coaches, educators, parents and business leaders every year. COE Institute is based in Colorado and headed by Rod Olson. Olson, who founded COE Institute, is a nationally recognized coaching expert, speaker, consultant and author. He is universally characterized by friends, colleagues, and clients as one of the most insightful, powerful, and compelling speakers today. He has spent close to 20 years as a collegiate football coach, including holding the head coach position at three different universities. Rod has coached professionally at every level of collegiate sports, including stints at Oklahoma State University and three time NCAA National Champion Appalachian State University.
His organizations have trained more than 100,000 Coaches and Leaders nationwide. Several of COE’s clients include the United State Air Force Academy, YMCA, USA Olympic Coaching Schools, University of Colorado, and Colorado Springs School Districts.
"The 21st Century presents new challenges and problems for coaches and athletic directors," says Olson. "Instead of wishing for fewer problems we need to wish for new tools to handle these problems, that is why Coaches of Excellence exists."
The sportsmanship initiative and professional development began this week when Olson spoke to the league’s Presidents, Athletic Directors and Senior Woman Administrators at their annual summer meeting in Colorado Springs. The program will continue in the fall when Olson will visit each of the league’s 14 campuses and perform a workshop for every coach at each campus.
