Lacy transferred to Chadron State after playing one year at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. She started at point guard, but averaged just 4.0 and 7.5 points the first two years. When a new coach (Tom Andersen) arrived for her senior year, he encouraged her to shoot more. That season, she averaged 18.9 points and was named the RMAC Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to the conference's regular season co-championship and the tournament championship. Prior to her senior season, she had made just 11 3-pointers, but her senior season she led the RMAC in 3-point shooting, hitting 50 of 134 attempts for 37.3 percent. Overall, she shot 42.5 percent from the field and 75.5 percent from the free throw line. She also had 129 assists and 60 steals as a senior. Besides being named the RMAC player of the year, Lacy was chosen as the Nebraska Small College Player of the Year by both the Lincoln and the Omaha newspapers.
Academic Accomplishments:
Orpin graduated from Chadron State in December 1996 after helping coach the Eagles as a student assistant the year after she had expended her eligibility. Her major was English. She then worked for an Oklahoma newspaper for two years before becoming the Sports Information Director at Oral Roberts University for three years. As all of us in that business know, that work leads to a hectic lifestyle. Since resigning, or for the past year, Lacy has been a communications writer at Texas State Technical College at Waco.
