Athletic Accomplishments: Hickman wrestled at
137 pounds as a freshman. He moved up to 147 pounds as a sophomore
and compiled an 11-3-1 mark en route to a second place finish in
the RMAC and a berth at the National Championships. As a junior, he
went 17-5-1 at 147 pounds and won the NCAA National Championship.
In the process, he became the first athlete from CSM to win an
individual national title. His second place finish helped CSM claim
a second place finish as a team in the country. It remains the
highest finish in program history. He concluded his career by going
16-3-1 as a senior, winning the RMAC Championship and placing
second at the NCAA National Championships. Hickman was inducted
into the Colorado School of Mines Athletics Hall of Fame in
2000.
Academic Accomplishments: Hickman graduated with a
3.7 grade point average in Petroleum Engineering in 1965.
