Dryer to Emcee 2010 RMAC Hall of Fame Banquet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- April 28, 2010 -- Hall of Famer and two-time U.S. Olympian Elva Dryer will be the Master of Ceremonies at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame and Awards ceremony, Saturday, June 26 at the Colorado Springs Marriott Hotel.

Dryer was inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in 2003. She was a 16-time All-American and a five-time national champion while competing in cross country and track at Western State College. In 2009, Dryer was named to the RMAC Centennial Celebration all-time teams in both cross country and track & field. Dryer was recognized as the top runner in RMAC women's cross country history. As a senior at WSC, Dryer was named the NCAA II Track & Field Athlete of the Year and did not lose a cross country race her final two seasons. On the track she won four straight RMAC Outdoor Track & Field championships in the 1500 meter run, and four straight RMAC Indoor Track & Field championships in the mile run. The Durango native earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western State in 1995.
Dryer was inducted into the Colorado Sportswoman Hall of Fame in 1997 and the National Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2000. Also in 2000, Dryer was a member of the U.S. Olympic team, competing in the 5,000 meters. In 2004, Dryer once again made the U.S. Olympic team, running the 10,000 meters at the games in Athens, Greece. Still an active professional runner, Dryer won the Austin Half Marathon and the Conoco-Phillips Rodeo run in 2009.
This is the eighth annual Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame and Awards ceremony. Six individuals and two teams will be inducted into the 2010 RMAC Hall of Fame. Shane Carwin (Western State), Jack Cotton (Adams State), Amy Giblin (Adams State), Marv Kay (Colorado Mines), Regina Rhodes (Western State) and Tonya Stites (Mesa State) are the individual honorees. The 1954 Western State football team and 1980 Adams State wrestling team will also be inducted.
Social hour begins at 5 p.m. (MDT), followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the banquet at 7 p.m.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is now in it's 101st year of existence was founded in 1909. The RMAC is the fourth oldest conference in the country, and the most historic in the western U.S.
