RMAC Hall of Fame1968 Adams State College WrestlingThe 1968 Adams State College wrestling squad, led by NAIA
National Coach of the Year Frank Powell, boasted eight
all-americans (including three individual national champions) as
ASC participated in all 11 weight classes and scored 106 team
points (one shy of the NAIA national meet record). ASC defeated
theUniversity of Nebraska-Omaha, 106-77, on route to becoming the
1968 NAIA national champions. The 1968 individual results and
national tournament records were as follows: Rich Tamble (2nd at
115, 3-1 record); Mike Stanley (Champion at 137, 5-0 record);
Gordon Levy (5th at 145, 4-2 record); Dwight Fritz (3rd at 160, 5-1
record); Don Apodaca (2nd at 167, 3-1 record); Glen Engel (Champion
at 177, 5-0 record); Dominic Carollo (Champion at 191, 4-0 record -
also won NCAA University (Division I) national title in 1968 and
finished as runner-up in 1967) and Tom Kusleika (3rd at HWT). Leroy
Polkowske (123, 0-1 record), Carlos Fontanez (130, 1-1 record) and
Dennis Jouette (152, 2-2 record) each participated at their
respective weight classes.
