Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Media Relations Internship

                The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), a premier NCAA Division II athletic conference headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo., is seeking an individual to serve as an assistant in its media relations office. This is a 10-month position from August 2008, through May 2009.

                The successful candidate will assist the RMAC Director of Media Relations in all facets of promoting the league, its 14 member institutions and its 19 championship sports. Responsibilities will include: serving as the primary and secondary media contact for selected league-sponsored sports, writing and editing of press releases and publications, updating the league's record book (RMAC Media Guide / Record Book, RMAC Championship Programs and RMAC Directory), maintaining the league's photo gallery and updating the conference's web site (www.rmacsports.org) as well as a variety of other assigned duties.

The individual will have experience in desktop publishing (InDesign CS2, Photoshop), some knowledge of web site maintenance and an understanding of sports writing and statistics. Candidates should possess excellent communication and writing skills, strong organizational ability, an understanding of NCAA rules and regulations and should be considering a career in athletic media relations.

                The media assistant should be working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in communications, public relations, sports management or a related field. Ideally, this individual would be a senior in college or a graduate student. Previous experience in a collegiate media relations environment is preferred.

                A stipend and tuition ($8,000 total or $4,000 per semester) for the 10-month position may be available upon qualifications.  If the intern is not working toward a degree, there may be a $4,000 stipend available ($2,000 per semester).
